With no shortage of beautiful sights in Vienna, jaunts into the cafés were intertwined throughout sightseeing walks. Demel was my favorite, overflowing with old-world style and, of course, elaborate cakes. Aida had a 50s diner vibe, with a neon shop sign and pink-glazed petit fours. And to channel intellectual influences, I had a mélange {Viennese coffee with milk} and almond praline cake at Café Central, a spot once frequented by Sigmund Freud, Leon Trotsky, and Vladimir Lenin.
