Imperial Vienna

Hofburg Palace, Michaelerkuppel

Vienna’s grandeur spans across its palaces, monuments, and museums. The Hofburg Palace was once the center of the Austrian monarchy. Among its long list of historical events, it was also the birthplace of Marie Antoinette. Today, an intriguing part of the imperial grounds is the Winter Riding School, which houses the graceful Lipizzaner Stallions. In stark contrast to the old-world architecture of imperial Vienna, modern Vienna, highlighted by the Museum of Modern Art, is defined by the aversion of windows and straight lines.
